Steel Wool Photography

This was my first attempt at steel wool photography so I didn't really know what to expect. All you need is some steel wool at thickness medium, some whisks, a dog lead, matches and a place with not much light.

We went to Ouseburn Culvert which is always pitch black, and we started to set up.

After taking some photos in a narrow little arch way we turned around and took some in the massive arch way. This was a gamble because we didn't know if the little sparks would give us the same effect and bounce off the walls.

Steel wool photography is a safe way of getting amazing photographs that look very dangerous or ask the question how did they do that? After every go we would put out the left over of the steel wool with water just to make sure it wouldn't set anything on fire.

We headed back to the entrance of the tunnel where we attempted to take some photographs while standing in the river.

It started to get dark and it was time to leave the culvert, we walked back to town and got on the bus to the town moor. this is where we would hopefully get some more photos.

Sadly after only a few attempts it was getting cold and started to pour with rain, it was best to go home and warm up. Fortunately we still have loads of wool left so we will be back again. Even though the little sparks would sting for a split second, this was the most fun I have ever had and I will be doing it again and again, hopefully with different ideas to include.
