Tynemouth Sunset 17-02-15

Yesterday afternoon, we headed into town to get the metro to Tynemouth.  At 5:00pm we arrived just in time to see the start of the sunset and we were very lucky that the sky wasn't full of clouds.

We walked up to the Collingwood Monument which gave us a brilliant view of the sunset and South Shields.

We also took this opportunity to get some silhouette photos on the monument with the sunset as the background.

We walked down the hill from the monument to the sea front. We couldn't see the sun as much but the sky was a beautiful bright colour of orange. The photo below was taken on my iPhone 6 but I tapped the screen for the focus and I slid my finger down to manually adjust the exposure. 

Since the tide was out we climbed over the wall and walked down to the rock pools. After slipping on the rocks and falling in the water we finally found a safe place to stand and take some photographs.

We were also very lucky that a ferry was leaving the docks at the same time. This created small waves that crashed into the rocks creating a nice foreground for our photos.

It was time to leave the rocks before the tide came in but we still weren't finished with the sunset because now the sky had becoming amazing shades of pink and orange. The clouds were flat and fluffy but were still a bold white making them stand out from the different colours in the sky.

It was time to head back home but I wanted to go back to the monument to get my final photos of night.

Abandoned Buildings Part II

I would first like to say, I do not want to encourage trespassing and please be safe and not stupid. Some places do give permission, so ask.

Couple of weeks ago we visited the Durham Swimming Baths which has been left empty since 2008.  abandoned places should be photographed because they are structures that are most often forgotten, hidden away and used to be huge parts of peoples lives. They should be at least seen and used in a good way before they get demolished or even better turned into something different. 

Once we were inside, we were amazed by the whole structure of the pool and how it used to be a place of fun and joy.

The stairs to get to the viewing balcony are still in tact which gives you another perspective of the main swimming pool.

I also took this opportunity to get some panoramas on my iPhone. The people back in 2008 would be having fun, having a lesson or here to relax, now it's still a place to relax and think but its not the same.

There are changing rooms along this long corridor where at the end the natural light comes through. This corridor also led us into the smaller pool which is much shallower and used for younger people.

The smaller swimming pool is also in really bad state but still had the iconic children swimming pictures on the wall which stood out to me. It brought back memories of when I was much younger and learning the life skill of swimming for the first time.

Recently we re-visited the  Greggs factory. Even though we had already visited a few times, this was likely to be our last. There are workers in stripping it down to get it ready to be demolished, we think. 

The Greggs factory was one of my favorite places to visit and take photographs and it was very strange seeing it empty with everything in sorted and in piles.  All the windows, doors and stairs were boarded up, stopping access.

Since this was our last visit we decided to take some different photos than usual. We bought a plain white carnival mask and torches.

The Gregg's factory has always been good explore for me even if i was only there for an hour or two. Every room was different, filled with left behind belongings and the structures have been always amazing.

It was also the first time I had my Polaroid Cube with me to film some short clips. You can film in either 720p or 1080p HD in a wide angle lens at 124°.
